Frequently Asked Questions

Q: So what exactly is this place?

A: We like to think of it as woodworking heaven. Its a place to build, learn, teach, socialize and create community.

Q: How does it work?

A: If you're interested in becoming a member, first you have to take our safety class. Not only do you learn how to be safe, but you get to make a pretty sweet cutting board. After you take the class, you can then become a member! You can actually purchase a membership before you take the safety class (some memberships offer safety class discounts), it just won't be active until after the class.

If you are only interested in any of our cool classes, check them out here.  Classes are open to anyone and don't require a membership, safety class, or any woodworking experience at all!

Q: What should I wear to Build?

A: Always wear closed toed shoes while in the shop and long hair should be tied back securely to avoid accidents. Also, do not wear loose fitting clothing, scarves, or jewelry that would interfere with the machines.

Q: Does Build have eye and hearing protection or should I bring my own?

A: We have plenty of safety glasses, ear plugs, and dust masks available, but you are more than welcome to bring your own!

Q: Is there an age requirement?

A: Yes, all members must be 18+. If there are special classes or events that allow people under 18, it will be posted on our classes page and sent out through our email distribution list. Sign up on our home page for the latest information!

Q: Can I bring my own tools?

A: Of course! We try to supply a wide variety of tools but we realize that you may have something that we don't, or you just may be partial to your favorite screwdriver.

Q: Do you have somewhere for me to store my stuff?

A: Yes, you are more than welcome to leave your projects at Build and they will be safe and secure.

Q: So is this like a "man cave" or a place for guys only?

A: Absolutely not!  We believe that women can do anything that men can do (and sometimes better!).  We want to build a community of PEOPLE who are inspired to create!

Q: I have a son or daughter that I'd like to bring up and help me.  Can I do that?

A: While we love kids, you have to be 18+ to be in the shop.  We are working on some special summer kids classes and programs to get them more involved.

Q: This place is awesome!  Why didn't I think of that?

A: Glad you think so! And glad you didn't!

Q: Can I teach classes?

A: We are always looking for teachers!  We want our classes to range from the novice to the expert, and from completely manual to the fully automated (CNC Router, Computer Aided Design).  If you have a skill you'd like to share, come talk to us!

Q: Do you do commissioned/custom pieces?

A: Yes!  If you need something custom made, give us a call, send us an email, or better yet, stop by!  We would love to help you!
